Request for Extension of Time to Earn Eagle Scout Rank
“If a youth foresees that, due to no fault or choice of [his/her] own, [he/her] will be unable to complete the Eagle Scout rank requirements before age 18, [he/her] may apply for a limited time extension. These are rarely granted and reserved only for work on Eagle.”
–Guide to Advancement
If something unforeseeable may prevent a Scout from completing their Eagle project prior to their 18th birthday, they may petition an extension.
Scouts whose projects are directly effected by the COVID-19 pandemic may be granted an extension. For more information regarding these specific situations, click here.

This cannot be done without consulting with the local advancement committee; Scouts and parents are not allowed to decide on doing alternative requirements. But they can reach out to the local advancement committee and make a case for why a Scout requires alternative requirements.
